Skye Jacobson Solo Exhibition - Opening Event

Seamless Gestures
14 August – 1 September 2014, NANA Gallery.
An exhibition of drawings by Skye Jacobson.

Haunted by the mysterious figures of strangers parading up and down the streets of Berlin earlier this year, Skye continues her exploration here in Newcastle recalling and depicting people and faces from memory.

Tuning into the social dialogue of gestures and movement in street scenes through abstract and linear suggestion, Skye portrays spontaneous and quirky expressions of passers by captured in fleeting moments of time.
Greatly inspired by German and Austrian Expressionism, Kirchner’s street scenes come to mind:
“It seems as though the goal of my work has always been to dissolve myself completely into the sensations of the surroundings in order to then integrate this into a coherent painterly form”.

Extreme Drawing Workshop

On the 20th and 21st of August 2014 NANA hosted a Pop Up Art Fair and Extreme Drawing Workshop at the University Of Newcastle. The event formed part of the Universities’ annual community art festival Create 2308 that featured events and performances from local artists and musicians, throughout the Callahan campus. NANA’S Extreme Drawing Workshop invited participants to work collaboratively and as individuals to produce an outdoor 3D drawing, charcoal studies and finally a large-scale mixed media aerial drawing. The activity was an exploration of boundaries, both spatially and within the medium of drawing. You can view the results in NANA’S Perkins Street windows NOW.

Day 1 Phase 1 - Drawing with tape

Day 1 Phase 2 - Drawing from the sculptural drawing in charcoal
Weaving woolen shapes

Day 2:  collaborative large scale drawing of the sculptural drawing

The finished product - On display in NANA'S Perkins St windows

THE NANA DIY ART FAIR 20-21 AUG

Art fairs are usually synonymous with expensive alcohol and Bvlgari pearl sponsorship.

This month NANA will be hosting a DIY version at Bar on the Hill as part of CREATE 2308,

the annual uni arts festival. Students are welcome to come along and set up their own art

stalls in any way they see fit. We are hoping for a creative art stall sprawl across the lawns

of Bar on the Hill. The fair will give NANA an opportunity to connect further with the local

student community and let them know what we are all about.
